[ fourth of july and my worst fear ]

July 4th

On the morning of the fourth, we decided to skip sitting sticky in the heat at the parade and crouch under some shady cherry trees, plopping juicy red jewels of heaven into our buckets instead. Our plans were to go cherry picking in the morning,  have family over for a cookout at dinner, and then head downtown to see the fireworks that evening. But, poor baby randomly got the flu right after dinner, so we had to skip the fireworks. Ever since he started eating table food I have had this fear of finding him in a bed soaked with sickness, or being out in public where I had to catch it in my hands. Earlier this Spring BrettRyan and I caught the flu, but somehow Breck avoided getting it. This time, it was the boy. It was so very sad to watch him get so sick. He would cry and scream while it was happening. It made me want to cry because he didn't really understand what was going on. He got sick about every forty minutes for about five hours. With each time, he'd get weaker and more limp.  During every lull in between times, I would just lay on the floor next to him, praying for his body's little sake, that - that was the last time. Fortunately, the last time he got sick was 9:45pm and he was able to sleep until 5:45am. It was rather humorous when he woke up at 5:45am. He woke up to me laying next to him on the living room floor, and Daddy sleeping on the couch. He was instantly hyper just because he woke up to something different and completely out of the norm! Oh, I was so glad to see my baby better. It was short lived, but I hope we don't see sick days like that for a long time again. For a few days after that he would say "uucky" every time he would see the white trash can.  It's so sad to look back at the pictures of him during 4th of July dinner and actually see that he didn't feel good. (And poor Grammy caught the first two rounds right in her hands at the dinner table. Ugh. Needless to say Grammy (and mommy) also caught the flu. Daddy stayed in the clear though!)

Here are pictures from our July 4th happenings...

Man, Poppa was busy! Look at all of the cherries he picked!

Please excuse this Momma's lack of attempts to put makeup on that morning!

Breck didn't want to eat them, he wanted to feed them to Grammy to watch her reaction!

He wouldn't hardly eat anything at dinner. Now we know why... it was either 1. he was sneaking the strawberries before hand, or 2. he knew he was about to spill his lunch into Grammy's hands in about T-20 minutes.

Couldn't resist these straws at Target. $2.00!

Poor baby isn't looking to swell here. :( A little on the pale side.

Ps. Note to self: Do this again. I saw online where you can take your glass jars (and I have plenty of those collected around), wrap yarn or twine around them, and spray paint them. Once the paint dries and you remove the yarn it leaves a little design and window into the jar. Perfect for a gift to deliver flowers, or as a candle. Loved how my first one turned out!

I had been outside photographing the jar and flowers, and I heard a gentle knock-knock-knock on the glass behind me. I turned around to find this sweet little face trying to get my attention! :) Love him to pieces! Absolute pieces.

[ don't go, 2010 ]

When the clock tick-tocked to midnight and all phones, computers, and calendars across the globe automatically updated to January 1, 2011, I didn't hear the handsome Dick Clark's Rockin' New Year Countdown, or Auld Lang Syne, or see a glittery ball drop in a ten second timeframe.

This was my view...

...and that was good enough.

Baby boy wanted to ring in the new year too. He woke up exactly ten minutes before midnight. I wasn't overly excited to see our year go and a new one come. I'm sure there will be great things in 2011, but 2010 was just our year

We welcomed our baby boy...

I became a Mamma...

Daddy became a daddy...

We became official home owners...

2010 brought cousins galore!
Brody, Dylan, and Breck...

Maxon, Poppa, and Breck

Precious last moments were spent with ones we love...

2010 possessed several firsts for us... and I think that might be were my little twinge of farewell sadness is coming from... I mean, it just sounds weird to say I had a baby last year. It somehow implies that my baby is no longer a baby!  God has been so good to us this year, but not very far from us are friends and family we love that haven't felt as blessed and have experience quite a bit of heartache and struggles. Wishing them a special peace and comfort, and heres to hoping 2011 is their year! Even though that twinge of resistance was there in saying goodbye to 2010, I'm so excited for a new year, new seasons, and new firsts to come! Like a first birthday coming up this month! Welcome 2011!
