Grammy had a grand idea last week that we (she and I and the boy) would make the trek out to the big lake and that we could bring every thing to grill-out once Daddy and Poppa got out of work and made the drive too. So with blankets, and sand toys, and cameras, and food, and coolers, and every other thing but the kitchen sink in tow (because that's how Grammy and Mommy roll) we made the trip out. Breck, of course, didn't sleep a wink because he had to listen to every word Grammy and Mommy were saying. :) We were greatly disappointed once we got close and could see the storm clouds hovering over the area of beach we were aiming strait for. The weather man failed us, but we had fun anyways. It was overcast, cool, and breezy, which actually tricked us into thinking the water was decently warm.
LOVE these pictures Grammy took of me and my boy!
I won't sugar coat anything here and just be honest. I have a very boy, boy who loves to vroom-vrooom every time he sees any mode of transportation, and is very into boy-ish things, but he just whole-heartedly, absolutely hates the feeling of sand on any part of his body. Fingers, hands, toes... he will fuss, curl up his nose, and try his best to smack it off until he feels relief. Or if all else fails... just come whining to us until we wipe the sand off for him. When we tried to make him walk from the dry, powerdy sand to the hard, wet sand, he literally froze in place and lifted one foot off the ground. We eventually got him there, and once he was at the edge of the waves he was golden. He loved being in the water and splashing! Just don't get him close to that stuff that sticks! We're 300% sure he got this little option from his Grammy. Stories have been told by her Mom that she wouldn't leave the blanket for fear of a grain of sand getting on her body, when they went to beach as a family. Sounds like a little boy I know too!
Breck loved it when Poppa ran with him to chase the seagulls...
and built froggies out of that icky sand. :)
Love the progression of Breck running in these pictures!
Shortly after these pictures were taken it began to rain us off the beach. All that dinner packed into the cooler just to be unpacked once we got back home. So we Red Wok Chinese'd it for dinner. Boy was out like a light before we even got back to the interstate after dinner.
Take 2
So the overcast did disappoint us a bit, which leads us to our attempt number two at the beach. The sun didn't disappoint at all... as a matter of fact. The sun delivered a bit too much. Grammy and Mommy were lobsters by the end of the night because we refused to use sunscreen. The warmer weather proved the water a bit too chilly for Breck this time, and of course the beach was a bit too sandy. So he was just happy going from beach chair to beach chair and staying safely stranded from the sand on the blankets.
This picture just makes me laugh...
Nana Anna and her friend soaking up some sun...
And oh. my. word. Grammy brought along these yummy Italian subs that she whipped up before we left. I am now officially craving them, so much so BR went to the store the other night just so we could have every single ingredient (even the bread) the exact same as hers. They are to die for! Genoa Salami, roast beef, turkey, pepperonis, bell peppers, jalapenos, provolone cheese, mayo, italian dressing. They are extra specially perfect if they've been wrapped up and stored cold in the refrigerator for a while (just like they tasted fresh out of her cooler that beachy day!).
And this folks, is a miracle to behold. Breck falling asleep on the beach! I had just come back from the bathroom and he had paci in his mouth and Bearpo in his arms and he was reaching for me. The noisy waves and constant breeze were the perfect blend of white noise for me to rock him to sleep. A little fighting he was out within a few minutes! It was precious. He laid like this on the beach for about an hour, and then woke up and was very confused. Grammy quickly crawled over to him, scooped him up and rocked him back to sleep where he collapsed in her arms for about another half hour!
You'd miss it if you glanced, but Breck is wrapped up in that towel on Grammy's lap!
It was the perfect day. Sunny, but so very breezey you never had a chance to get hot!
What a fun day we had! Who needs Florida!?
