[ this to this, airplanes, and college roommates ]

Could someone please tell me how we've gone from this: (one week old)

To this: (seventeen months old)

Because time is going way, way to very fast, and before we know it in just a few short months we're gonna have another sweetie cutie pie to watch sleep when she's only a week old. And then before we know it again, we're gonna be photographing her like her big brother at seventeen months old in the same crib! Wow!

Breck has never been one to really let you "rock" him to sleep. As soon as we read a few books, pray, and shut the light off, he's usually squirming all over, basically asking to be laid down. Thank goodness that Baby Wise made him just really want his crib, but the last few nights, he's been so cuddly that he let me rock him to sleep, and that - I just couldn't resist. I cherished the sound of every deep sleep breath he made, studied the way his dimpled fingers hugged his Bearpo close to his face, and tried to etch that visual into my memory so that when he's gone and grown I could remember. I tried to envision the days when he's gone and grown and I wanting to remember the instant I was rocking him to sleep, but trying to envision this just brought tears to my eyes. So I rocked him until my feet and arm went numb. I breathed in his sweet smell one last time - about ten times before I got up and laid him down. Last night, I had a feeling he might let me do the same thing, so I plopped my camera next to the rocker and left the lamp on, and got these to remember:

I just can't believe how big my baby is getting! He's understanding nearly every single thing we say, he communicates very well what he means (even though he only has a good four or five solid words he says clearly). He always gives his approval by nodding and bobbing his head up and down several times. He lets know know when anything is "Aaaut, aaut!" (his version of hot) He hears birds, lawnmowers, motorcycles, cars, trucks, and airplanes much sooner than our adult ears pick up on them. And he senses exactly where the sound is coming from! Excuse me while I brag on my child, but he's just so stinkin' smart! Some of the things lately that have amazed us are when he understood the following:

Papaw talking to Breck on Skype a few days ago...
(Papaw) Breck, how do you wind up Papaw's flashlight?
Breck remembered the motion from THREE weeks ago when we were in Indiana, and he proceeded to do "the motion" of winding up the flash light.

Grammy stopped by the house this morning during her walk with the dogs.
(Grammy) Breck, want to help Grammy put the leashes on the doggies before I go?
And Breck immediately ran in to the entry way and pointed to the leashes on the bench!
LEASHES!? How does he know what a leash is!? Ha!

This is exactly what he does when he hears an airplane or helicopter in the sky. As soon as he hears the noise he repeatedly says "Aauh - aauh - auh - aaaauuh!" He completely neglects whenever it is he is doing at the moment, looks up at the sky, and points until he has the satisfaction of knowing he's located the airplane. And he continuities to be in awe over the entire experience until the airplane is out of sight! :) Bye-bye he waves to the airplane.

Another interesting thing he's been doing lately is showing some signs of jealousy and wanting "his people" all to himself! Last week when his cousin Maxon was visiting, Breck would get super jealous if Grammy was holding, playing with, or talking to Maxon! It was quite humorous and Grammy soaked up every jealous look in Breck's eyes! :) I think Sissy making her appearance in a few months will be good for Breck! Also, I've noticed Breck getting jealous if we have friends over who also have children and I'm playing with another baby. He HAS to be on my lap, and is extra whiney. Kinda cute I have to admit.

Speaking of friends...

Last week was a college days flash back!

I was able to see my two roommates from college when I lived in Florida! I would have been SO cool for all three of us to be together again, and they missed each other by about two days, but it was great to see each of them individually too!

April lives about twenty-five minutes away, but we just don't get the opportunity to see each other enough! She is also pregnant and expecting their first son! The kicker is that she and I are due the exact same day! September 8th! And yes, we've already talked it over and realized  - that yes, we did indeed conceive on the same night! How funny is that!? It was so good to see her and her baby bump!

Ashley and Mr. Luke came to see Breck and I for a few hours last week also! It was so great to see them! I haven't seen Ashley in about five years! She lives in Florida, and she had been up in Michigan visiting her family, and took the time to make a forty-five minute trip West to see us for a few hours! So glad she made the time! It was great to see her and to meet Luke for the first time! What a sweet little guy! Luke was one of the babies Breck was a little bit whiney and jealous over! Ha!

Ps. (29 weeks) Little miss Adelaide must be having a growth spurt because the last few days she has been making some pretty crazy movements that I can actually SEE now when I look at my belly! It's so wild to watch and I love feeling her move inside of me! Can't wait to meet her in about ten weeks!

Oh! I almost forgot...
Pss. Look what I found!!!
$3.00 at a garage sale! Breck LOVES to play with it and now we have a super-fun, official mail box for when Breck gets a card or when Mamaw and Papaw send him packages in the mail! :)
